Why Pathworks
The problem we solve
You built a real practice. You have real clients who trust you. But somewhere along the way, running the business started getting in the way of serving them.
Most relationship-first advisors managing $40–80M in AUM face the same quiet crisis: the business they built is working against them. Compliance takes hours they don't have. Operations fall on their desk because there's no one else. Portfolio management is squeezed into evenings. And somewhere in the back of their mind is a question they haven't fully answered yet — what happens to all of this when I'm ready to step back?
It's not a failure of effort. It's a failure of infrastructure. Independent advisors weren't designed to run a full back-office solo. The model was never sustainable at scale, and most people who try it long enough eventually feel the strain.
That's the problem Pathworks was built to solve. Not with a franchise model, not with a production quota, and not by absorbing your practice into something that doesn't fit. With a genuine partnership — one built around what you actually need.
What Pathworks provides
Investment management & portfolio support
Most independent advisors are managing portfolios largely on their own — researching, rebalancing, monitoring, and explaining. It's time-consuming, and it pulls you away from the relationships that actually drive your business.
At Pathworks, you gain access to institutional-quality investment management and portfolio infrastructure. We provide model portfolios, research support, trading execution, and ongoing monitoring — so you can spend your time with clients, not spreadsheets.
You don't lose control of client investment decisions. You gain a team behind those decisions.
Operational & compliance stability
Running an independent practice means wearing too many hats. Compliance filings, marketing reviews, billing reconciliation, technology platforms, vendor management — none of this is why you became an advisor, and none of it makes your clients' lives better.
Pathworks handles the back-office so you don't have to. Our team manages compliance oversight, marketing support, and the operational systems that keep a modern RIA running. You stay registered under our SEC umbrella, with experienced compliance professionals watching the details.
The goal is simple: give you your week back.
A collaborative, team-based culture
Many advisors who come to us describe the same thing: they built something they're proud of, but they've been doing it alone. No one to think through a difficult client situation with. No one to cover when they're out. No shared mission.
Pathworks is built around a team culture, not a collection of solo practitioners. You'll have colleagues who share your values — people who believe in long-term planning, fiduciary standards, and genuine client relationships over transactions.
You won't be asked to chase a production quota or sell products you don't believe in. You'll be asked to do what you do best, with people who respect how you do it.
Succession & continuity planning
One of the most overlooked risks in any advisory practice is the question of what happens next. What happens to your clients if you get sick, if you want to slow down, or if you're ready to retire? What happens to the business you spent years building?
Pathworks helps you build a succession plan now — not when you're forced to. We'll document your practice, identify the right transition path, and ensure your clients have continuity no matter what the future looks like.
For many advisors, this is the single most compelling reason to make a change. Your clients deserve a plan. So does your business.
What we're looking for in a partner
We're not trying to add advisors to a roster. We're building a long-term growth capability, and that means being honest about who this is — and isn't — the right fit for.
We work best with advisors managing roughly $40–80M in AUM who are independent or at a small RIA. That range matters because it's where the infrastructure gap is most acute — big enough to have real complexity, but not big enough to justify building a full back-office team alone.
Values matter more than numbers. We're looking for advisors who lead with relationships, not transactions. Who think in decades, not quarters. Who believe that serving clients well and building a sustainable business aren't in conflict — they're the same thing.
If you're primarily motivated by production volume or are looking for a place to park your license, we're probably not the right fit. If you care about the quality of work you do and want a team that shares that standard, let's talk.
"We're not looking to just add advisors to a roster. We're building a long-term growth capability — and that means finding advisors who share our values and want to build something together. If that sounds like you, we'd love to talk."
